San Miguel de Salinas lies in the south of Alicante province, in the Vega Baja del Segura district, between Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa and the farmland of the interior. The compact, traditional town centre sits on a hill above Torrevieja's pink lagoon, part of the La Mata and Torrevieja Lagoons Natural Park. Around it, urbanisations of detached villas and townhouses with gardens have grown up, popular with international residents and Spanish buyers who prefer peace and space to a frontline apartment.

The surroundings mix nature and leisure: viewpoints over the salt lake, country tracks, old quarries turned into walking areas and, within minutes by car, several of the best-known golf courses on the southern Costa Blanca.
