Unlike the historic city of Orihuela, which lies inland on the River Segura, Orihuela Costa is a coastal area made up of neighbourhoods such as Punta Prima, Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Dehesa de Campoamor. The coastline mixes small rocky and sandy coves with more open beaches, and along many stretches you can walk by the sea from one cove to the next. Inland there are residential developments with gardens and pools, and well-known golf courses including Villamartín, Las Ramblas and Campoamor.

The climate is dry and Mediterranean, with mild winters and hot summers cooled by the sea breeze. Many people live here all year round, although the population grows considerably in summer. Supermarkets, shopping centres, restaurants, health centres and schools, including international ones, are spread across the area, so daily life is easy without long drives.

Travel connections are convenient. Region of Murcia International Airport (RMU, Corvera) is around 35–45 minutes by car, and Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC) about 50–60 minutes via the AP-7. Torrevieja is only a few minutes away, and Cartagena and Murcia city are under an hour.
